Alien52
All the seats in the old austin maxi would turn into a bed. This brings back memories.
carosio
This brings back memories. Me too! I think BMC used Dunlopfoam, which never sagged (unlike Ford) in their seats.
littlebasher
Only 1 car meets their needs, a Mk2 Granada estate Cavernous with the seats folded down I had one in the early 90's, so I expect they've all rusted to death by now!
alchresearch
The 306 estate isn't too bad. The 406 is a bit longer and wider so that might be a better choice but I don't have any experience of sleeping in that. I'm 6 foot 4 by the way.
crookesey
A guy I knew back in the 1960's has a mini van with a mattress in the back, however I can't recall him using it for sleeping in.
alchresearch
Chris Tarrant also used to do the same when he was a poor teacher, although he claims he used his for sleeping!

cardoor
I would seriously suggest you take a simple tent and sleeping bag and sleep in that. I know it is currently warm and in high summer, but at other times of the year it will get extremely cold in a car in the middle of the night, whereas in a tent, you are clearly unlikely to be arrested for "drunk in charge of a vehicle" and the tent will keep you warm. I doubt MCC will endorse me pitching a tent on Piccadilly Gardens. And even my old car has a heater!
cardoor
Be careful of being drunk while sleeping in a car: http://www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk/index.php?/topic/22815-drunk-whilst-in-charge-of-a-motor-vehicle/ Thanks, but surely you could just inform the local Police station beforehand where you are parked and what you're planning on doing? carosio
Back in '82 I had a Maxi and slept in it a few nights (would make a comfy double bed) near to a small harbour in Wigtown Bay, Galloway. One night one of the most ferocious S.East gales developed, and by midnight the car was almost on its side, so I had to move it into shelter behind the harbour wall. Later on in the daylight, at high tide, waves were breaking over the wall onto the spot where the car had been.
