E102 adverse effects on children

Recommended Posts

I just come across a packet of biscuits which had a big white sticky label on it with the following on it , basically a warning

" colour (E102)

May have a adverse effect on activity and attention on children .

Best before : 22/12/2011 "

Can you please tell me why are we adding this to our food if even the producer of the food is warning the consumer ,??

We only till recently put warnings of cig packets is it now food ?

The producer isn't warning through choice but because they are obliged to under EU regulations.

E102 is Tartrazine and has been known for some time to have an adverse effect on those sensitive to it. The Food Standards Agency introduced a voluntary ban some years ago but it was largely unsuccessful.

Ahh thanks , makes more sense now, producer instead of changing the packaging just added a sticker which included the info .

Point is it's only a color why not find and use a alternative if it's so likly to effect children ?
