just_words
It's quite easy to frighten children without the threat of violence. Yeah, there are many forms of fear... Even without their mention. Foreboding, suggestion, various forms of rhetoric, inference, etc...

relost
No. I haven't ever used scare tactics on my daughter. There has never been a need to. Scare tactics were used against me when i was a child. Going all the way to having to pack a bag to take away to the boys home. It was utterly terrifying and there is no way i would subject my daughter to anything like that. The thought of it is abhorrent. Totally agree. People do not realise what effect scare mongering will have on their children when they are older. I know someone who tells her children when they are naughty that she is going to "ring the bobbies" on him. So every time he sees a police car/ person when he has been "naughty"- he believes that they are their for him. Great to bring your child up thinking of the police as any enemy! eh
