ab6262
It's called the democratic fallacy. There are many areas of life in which taking a vote would be an unreliable way of discovering the appropriate course of action. how can a vote with a majority be unreliable?? especially in this context? websters gue
 how can a vote with a majority be unreliable?? What's needed is an informed majority, not simply a majority.
ab6262
What's needed is an informed majority, not simply a majority. why informed? and informed by who?
websters gue
why informed? and informed by who? It's good to think and have a bit of knowledge about something rather than putting everything to a vote in order to use the democratic procedure as a way of avoiding responsibility for the decisions you make. altus
would love to see the results of a referendum on the death penalty being re-instated? my guess would be around 70-80% in favour You'd be wrong. Here is a link to the petitions sorted by number of signatures. Note how the petition to retain the ban on capital punishment has over twice the votes of the one to restore capital punishment. tinfoilhat
I remember once the most popular petition on that site was Jeremy clarkson for pm. How about life meaning life if you kill someone, not life meaning 15 years but out in 8 if you keep your nose clean. I'd vote for that.
ab6262
Most people once believed that the earth was the centre of the universe - this does not make it correct no it doesnt make it correct and your analogy is also incorrect in this context
GrapeApe
So, regardless of living in a democratic system, even if the majority want the death penalty we cannot have it? There are more signatures against it actually
Quinnwok
There are more signatures against it actually True, but it's only just begun.
