Bad_Hair_Day
If you want somewhere out of town, try Bella Donna at Renishaw (close to J30 of the M1). The chef is from Sicily and the menu is full of lovely, authentic dishes.
ukurban
Maranello's at 438 Ecclesall Road do beautiful Italian food. It's on the opposite side of the Berkley Centre on Ecclesall Road. Ordered a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine with my other half a couple of weeks ago and we were very pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food was. The food was authentic Italian food and was perfectly cooked. The waiting on staff were Italian and I'm guessing the Chef was too probably, but couldnt say for sure as I didn't see him! lol. However, the place is fairly small, but quaint and charming. Not cheap prices, but you get what you pay for and it was definitely worth every penny we paid and will be definitely going back. clairebear17
Ferdinandos. Quality italian food. Been there about 3 times, 2 of those times have been in the last 3 weeks. They have amazing starters at a fair price, great mains (especially the steaks & pasta) and the deserts.... i would go there just for the hot chocolate fudge cake...shame my other half refused to let me have another Its also at a fair price. The two of us, our meal came to £50, well just under. He is a pot washer there so we did only pay £30 as he gets a discount...but even paying £60 for it would be cheap for the quality of food and service by the staff. Antibo's is very over priced for the food they serve. I think the starters are amazing, but the mains are such a disapointment. I had a steak priced in the £20's and it was vile. Fatty and not what i wanted. It was dry and not as 'melt in the mouth' as at ferdinando's.

Their website is at http://www.maranellos.com/ Think you need to listen a little closer, because all the Italian looking staff in Maranellos are in fact Iranian Not detracting from the quality of the food/place, but it doesn't fit with the OP's request for an Italian run Italian. DerbyTup
I couldn't really tell you for sure if any of the ones previously mentioned are genuine Italian run with Italian chefs. (And it seems like very few other people can either). The best recommendation I could make is to tell you to go to Calabria in Chesterfield which definitely meets that criteria. This is a genuine italian restaurant which means the menu isn't just about pizza and pasta. The emphasis is on "Regional" Italian food from (guess where?) Calabria (a region of Italy). And it's first class. I don't know of any Italian restaurant in Sheffield that specialises in this kind of cuisine (i.e. authentic regional Italian food local to a specific area of that country, including local wines etc). If if doesn't have to be a "restaurant" as such, then Il Gusto, on George Street in Sheffield is a great choice but it's only open in the daytime - more of a cafe really.
