chem1st
So who are you suggesting are the best brains in the land? Quite a few of them are wasting their lives, having been suckered in by the wages offered to them by financial industry. Tarnishing their names, sacrificing humanity for greed. Monami
Not every bank needed bailing out, and and not every sector of the banks made big losses. Also it's worth noting that it's not the banks responsibility to ensure the safeguarding of the UK's economy, their main responsibility is towards their shareholders. The accountability should go with people who are actually responsible for the safeguarding of the UK's economy. You contend therefore that what is good for the UK economy and what is good for shareholders is often contradictory?

JFKvsNixon
You contend therefore that what is good for the UK economy and what is good for shareholders is often contradictory? On a basic level yes, but then you have to look a bit deeper to understand the issue as many of our pensions and other financial products may be tied into the performance of the shares and it's dividend pay outs. Also the country needed the tax revenue from the profits that the banks were driving.

While some people are merely losing their jobs , families and houses that are worth only a hundered and fifty grand or so, they are losing up to a million in bonuses. My heart bleeds for them. I1L2T3
main responsibility is towards their shareholders. The parasite should not destroy the host. Unless it has a new host to move on to. Which in this case it doesn't.

Many of us will be shareholders indirectly via our pensions and other financial products, so are we all to blame then?

Bankers are parasites and the establishment is the tool that they use to make an incision in the arteries of the unsuspecting electorate. The blood keeps flowing.
