sheffcomedy
The Last Laugh Lescar welcomes one of the orignal founders of the Club back to the Lescar. Roger Monkhouse is joined by R David, Phil Chapman with last laugh regular Steve Goodall having a go at the open spot. Tickets - £8 Venue - Lescar Doors - 8pm Booking Line - 08452519017 R DAVID As a black scouser from Toxteth, R David is a member of so many minority groups that he should qualify for some sort of gold card. As it is, he has remained surprisingly chirpy and upbeat, taking life's inequalities and showing their funny side. David instantly warms the chilliest of rooms, sharing with the audience his theories that link teabags with ancient civilisations, alerting them to the panic caused by speed bumps in drive-by shooting prone Toxteth and telling them just what some ladies will do for a Dairylea triangle. "One of the best..." -THE GUARDIAN "Has audiences rolling in the aisles -some literally" -THE DAILY MIRROR "Regularly has 'em howling with tales of Toxteth" -COMEDY REVIEW MAGAZINE "Hard living Liverpool comedian" -CITY LIFE ROGER MONKHOUSE Roger Monkhouse is one of the most original and distinctive acts on the comedy scene. A consummate stand-up who employs a deadly combination of charm and menace to exert a masterful control over any audience. A highly original and quirky performer, Roger's trademark stage-prowling style and curious, inimitable manner have established him as one of the hottest names on the comedy circuit. Recent television credits include 'The Comedy Store' and ‘The World Stands Up’, (both Paramount), ‘My God I’m My Dad’ (Bravo) and ‘Street Cred Sudoku’ (UKG2). He is one of the regular writers on Channel 4’s hugely popular comedy panel show ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ - responsible for scripting up-to-theminute topical gags every week for the show which features Jimmy Carr alongside team captains Dave Spikey and Sean Lock. On the airwaves, he was recently a guest panellist on comedy panel show ‘Jest A Minute’ (BBC Radio Wales) as well as contributing to review show ‘Serious About Comedy’ (BBC7). A fine topical writer and performer, and master of sharp observational comedy, Roger is a regular member of the prestigious and critically acclaimed 'Cutting Edge' team at the London Comedy Store. "his laconic delivery shields an engaging persona and an enquiring mind" The Guardian "unfailingly entertaining and skilfully able to pull punchlines, seemingly, out of thin air" Chortle "packs in more observations on the human condition in a twenty minute set than a whole lecture on Jean-Paul Sartre" Venue Magazine "an enthusiasm akin to that of an excitable professor who's just found the gene that would enable a python to grow a beard" Manchester Evening News "Witnessing a Roger (no relation to the late, great but distinctly orange Bob) Monkhouse gig is a little like watching a dotty old university professor at work. Although much funnier, of course" Manchester Evening News "Highly regarded by his peers on the circuit - he's shaven-headed, topical, good, and nothing to do with Bob" Evening Standard PHIL CHAPMAN Phil Chapman is a bit like a one-night stand - he usually starts with a few quick ones, then moves into some longer stuff leaving his audience with a feeling of guilty pleasure, yet satisfied at the same time. He draws on huge range of cleverly written strong material to wow his audience, but has similarly penned a large number of quick gags in case needs must. His material often includes topical subjects, ensuring the audience never see the same set twice. "Cool as a cucumber... has every audience eating out of his hands!" - Beyond a Joke Liverpool
