diablo
Have a look on Martin Lewis' website for Martin's money tips, I am sure he did a piece of work on how to get the cheapest insurance for young drivers and also listed several insurance company's who specialise in insuring young drivers at competative rates I think elephant was one of them. Good luck.

gina2007
Insurance is a joke! We ran a quote for me to be a named driver on a Daewoo Matiz (800cc!) and ran it again for a Kia Sedona (3l) .... the Sedona was about 300pound cheaper!!! Only thing is, I cant drive the Sedona as its like a tank
willman
Can i just say that regards insurance PHONE a broker. We insured a suzuki jimny for an 18 year old, just passed a test for £600. Initially through a comparison site - but they emailed and i spoke directly to them the cost halved to £600. I've just moved our insurance to Swintons they could get better deals than Go Compare etc. Small 1 l engines should help with cost - select a few and try to price them all. Even if you don't buy the car you'll know. I had 17 quotes for Freelanders before i bought a car. Excess on insurance for fully comp may be more than value of car. Kia Picanto - low insurance grp, low tax bracket. Micra as above Peugeot
muckynees
The best thing to do would probably be, put a few vehicles through confused.com or similar (I usually find a vehicle of the same model and year on ebay and get a quote for it by using the reg number) to find out what sort of price you would be looking at. Something worth doing would also be the pass plus course, that reduced my brother in laws policy by £1000. In my experience with cars, and I've always had the smaller ones, a fiat cicento (*sp) would be on the cheapest scale and as some one else has pointed out, try to keep to a 1l engine. Be careful with Vauxhall Corsa's, some models can be very expensive to insure.
