Foundry down Attercliffe

Texas

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember a foundry, on one of the streets just before Norfolk Bridge, called Cook's. I had the dubious pleasure of working there for about a month one time. We used to work 12 hr shifts, not bad money ( about £40 per week, late 50's) but hard work. They had two baby electric furnaces, continuously on the go so you had hardly any respite. I was usually on 'shanking' the metal into the various moulds.

I once got a boot full of molten metal. It wasn't long after that I jacked it in. I was rather footloose (joke) in those days.
