Mecky
Never been on one, but I expect the tour operator to make it cost effective for themselves so I wouldn't expect too much.
MonkeyLover
We have been on a few of them, they are quite good, and excellent value for money. The first one we ever went on was a mystery when we booked it, but we found out about a week before where we were going. That was the type which was designed by the bus company to fill up spaces on coaches and hotels at the last minute, thereby making it a bit cheaper. Some of the people on the same holiday paid a lot more than us. We ended up in a lovely hotel in Scotland. The food was excellent, and the company great. (That was David Urquart) Another one we went on was just a one-nighter, it was a treat for my birthday, and we didnt find out until we actually got to the hotel. Even the driver didnt know until well into the journey, and got his instructions via mobile phone when we stopped for a break. We ended up near Newcastle, and, again, it was a lovely hotel and food etc. It was good fun guessing where we were going to go. On the way, we stopped at Durham for a good few hours, and on the way back, we spent the day in York. (Skills was the company we used) Another we went on was 5 days in Weston-Super-Mare. That wasn't too good at all. The hotel wasn't very nice, (a bit old and tired), there was no entertainment, but the food was ok. (Can't remember the tour company for that one, sorry)
