Loubbe
It's much easier to call for a deeper understanding of why crimes are committed when you are in opposition, and it is not YOUR politics that is under scrutiny. I am not suprised Cameron is washing his hands of this, and claiming it is pure criminality. If it is more politically motivated, it is as a result of his, and his party's, politics. I believe several forummers had previously commented that the fiscal measures affecting mainly the poorest, would lead to unrest. Or, of course, it could just be a load of kids wanting new ipods. Obelix
From the point of view of crime prevention it's entirely reasonable to try and understand why crime is committed - prevention being better than the cure after all. Wanting to understand it doesn't automatically mean you are going to tolerate and condone it - just that you are going to try and find a way perhaps to stop the next lot of them from doing the same thing. Chris_Sleeps
It says more about the nature of politics than any real weakness in his ideas. Politicians spill rhetoric for a living, and 99% of the time it floats away and is forgotten about.

Is it any wonder people take to the streets when multi millionnaire bankers almost bring the country to its knees and then the price is paid by the rest of us. When utility companies hike up prices every few months and the government just stands by, wrings its hands in depair and does...nothing. As a multi millionnaire Cameron has no idea how the rest of us live.

Cameron didn't have anything to do with the Policing operations of the riots, the Police are shouting this today! As before, as is now, it's right to ask what's gone wrong isn't it. He's not condoning the rioters what-so-ever!
