Grandad.Malky Posted August 12, 2011 Share Posted August 12, 2011 Brits don't seem to "Get it" Americans have always admired the Brits, well say English, they admire the Royalty, all the traditions, the English accents, English pubs , also Scotland Yard has always been known as The cream of the crop as far as crime solving goes, but reaing many post,s on the Forum, Brits don't seem to want Americans to like them I'm sure that can be arranged if thats what you want As far as riots go, they have plenty, so I don't get this gloating thing at all Do Americans get the concept of the police not being Armed ……… Would armed American police have opened fire on looting Kids? There was no police shooting of any looters during the Rodney King riots although the California National Guard was called in to supplement the police and they never shot any looters either. Some of the store owners in the riot area armed themselves with shotguns and rifles and kept the looters away. The initial reaction of the police cost Los Angeles Police Chief Gates his job. A mob attacked the driver of a large cement truck which was in the area at the time. The driver was white. He was dragged from his truck, severeley beaten and his truck vandalized. He lay there in the street for a long time without any appearance by police or paramedics. The whole situation was filmed live on TV from news helicopters circling overhead. Everyone watching it must have had the same thoughts. "Where the hell are the police. Why is he lying there without help from paramedics?" Gates had apparently instructed his police to stay away from the rioters for fear of worsening the situation In the end two black people not involved in the riots picked up the driver and took him to a local hospital.
