JMG999
The Sheffield Flagman didn't inherit the flagpole, he always fancied one (for no specific reason, he just did) & once he was living in a suitable house with a suitable space he got one! Once he'd got it, then he discovered the world of vexillology (the study of flags), began acquiring an immense collection of flags from all around the world & even joined the Flag Institute (did you even know such a thing existed?!). Lots of people ask what the flags are & why they're flying, hence the facebook & twitter links. Spread the word!
chriscalcite
It's been asked here before, who and why does someone daily fly flags of various nations on a flag pole in his garden on Whiteley Wood Road? Now following him. It must cost a fortune buying all those different flags though?
Stan Tamudo
Now following him. It must cost a fortune buying all those different flags though? You can pick em up cheap on ebay via Hong Kong I'm told.
andygardener
Thanks for the twitter link BF, now following. I'd love to know what motivated him to start doing it.
JMG999
There are 2 types of flags - proper hand sewn ones where each colour is a different piece of fabric all sewn together & ones which are printed onto synthetic fabric. The proper ones are expensive and although they last longer they are also much heavier so they don't furl so well, especially when they get wet. The other ones are much cheaper and they are lighter so they furl much better. The Sheffield Flagman has a couple of proper hand sewn flags but most of them are the cheaper ones, many of them bought by other people as presents... PS I have all this inside knowledge as I am Mrs Flagman
JMG999
I forgot to say he gets them from a UK flag supplier he found on the internet. And andygardener I will try & get a proper answer from him as to what motivated him in the first place. Watch this space...
