Bassman62
They are at war, do you feel the same about us when we were reliant on overseas aid during WW1 and WW2?At war with whom and how long has it been going on? Not as long as overseas aid I'll bet.
Bassman62
They are at war, do you feel the same about us when we were reliant on overseas aid during WW1 and WW2?We were not reliant on overseas aid! Overseas countries that consisted of the Allies were fighting for themselves not us. Had they not joined in on the allies side and allowed the Axis to succeed they themsleves would have soon been conquered by the Axis powers, that thought alone was enough incentive. Also Australia was reluctant at first to take part but the rumblings in South East Asia soon made the change their minds.

There was never the slightest danger of the US being conquered by the Axis powers and it's most unlikely that we could have kept up the war effort against the Nazis without all the aid given to us by the US under the lend lease program. andygardener
Which independance day is it? Getting made independant by the British day as east and west Pakistan or getting driven out of Bahgladesh by the indians and east pakistanis day? The latter is a lost more relevant to the country that is now simply pakistan.

Everything else was a loan. Didn't we only just finish paying them back a few years ago? Happy Independance Day to all Pakistanis.
Asif
Independent but still dependent on our overseas aid. You know it makes sense. Just like Israel, with aid from america
anywebsite
They are at war, do you feel the same about us when we were reliant on overseas aid during WW1 and WW2? But, they're at war with India, who also get our overseas aid... There's also the whole argument about whether we should be giving aid to a country's government that feels it is rich enough to build nuclear missiles. Should we really be funding two nuclear powers at war with each other?
andygardener
Just like Israel, with aid from america A bit like israel in that regard of the US aid, except we just cut them loose, they fought for their independance against numerous other nations and won and then expanded their area of operations as it were. Pakistan on the other hand was granted independance by us, then lost half it's territory because it was oppressing the people there. Even if you think being like israel is a good thing, pakistan's only real equivalence is lots of US handouts.

Didn't we only just finish paying them back a few years ago? They supplied us with huge amounts of badly needed war materials both free and at massively discounted rates iirc at about 90% discount. Even with that discount we were given decades to pay off the loan at a nominal rate of interest.
Bassman62
Just like Israel, with aid from america A fraction of the aid/arms supplied by the Soviet Bloc to all the surrounding Arab states
