PIAS We Love You - Charity fundraiser with music quiz, DJs, + more! 19.8.11

On Monday 8th August, a fire engulfed the PIAS distribution warehouse in Enfield during the London riots. PIAS distribute music from many independent music labels such as Warp, Rough Trade, Domino and Asthmatic Kitty Records. Over 1.5 million CDs and records have been destroyed, meaning that many small independent labels face a long, uphill struggle to regain security. Due to the high cost of pressing small runs of CDs many small labels are facing a great deal of uncertainty about their futures, and many bands have lost a lot of money which they themselves invested in producing CDs. This leaves the independent music industry in a very shaky state and as fans of independent music we need to do what we can to preserve the industry we love.

With this in mind, the music lovers of Sheffield appeal to you to come and donate whatever you can at PIAS We Love You: Oxo Foxo's music quiz and indie music celebration + Djs till late + more on Friday 19th August!

 

Oxo Foxo's music quiz will require you to form a team of between 4 and 6 people, so get your friends involved and come down en masse for what we think is going to be the most entertaining music quiz of the year.

 

Rounds will include:

- GENERAL KNOWLEDGE - so start storing those little-known facts in your wonderful brains

- FINISH THE LYRIC - our quizmaster can remember the first words from song lyrics, but has forgotten how they finish. Can you complete them?

- NAME THAT INTRO - a dastardly round to frustrate even the biggest music mogul as you attempt to place the intros being played

- BAND NAME ANAGRAMS - bands affected by the PIAS fire have been jumbled up, and it's your job to un-jumble them!

- NAME THAT ALBUM COVER - our gamesmaster has taken it upon himself to alter the appearance of several iconic album covers - can you tell what it is yet?

- THE MIDDLE 8 ROUND - listen in delight to our PIAS We Love You buskers as they visit your tables and play you the middle 8 section of a song, then name the song the excerpt is from. If you have any spare coppers to put in their hat, all the better - and it's ALL going to the PIAS fund!

The PRIZE for WINNING the Oxo Foxo music quiz will include BEER and many other magical mystery items collated by us or donated by local businesses - watch this space for more prizey details!

 

Following the quiz, you can relax and nod your head along to aural delights released on PIAS-distributed labels being played by such Djs as:

The Breakdown - Dashandblast - Death by Shoes - Drowned in Sound - Oxo Foxo - Seal Club

 

DJs will be taking donations till late in return for requests so save up those coppers for your own personal PIAS-themed jukebox!

 

And as if ALL THIS wasn't enough, we'll have a secondhand stall with items donated by YOU being sold with ALL proceeds going to the PIAS fund! So bring anything you have lying around which you would like to donate to be sold. We're thinking along the lines of old CDs or records, gig posters, cakes, T shirts, toys... But the sky's the limit, and your imagination is the best tool we have, so go crazy and bring anything you think someone else would like!

 

And finally, if ANYONE has another idea of something they could do or bring to this event to raise more money for the cause, do let us know - we want to make this is BIG and SUCCESSFUL and HELPFUL FOR PIAS as we can.

Doors: 8pm

Quiz commencement: 9pm

Quiz finishment: 10:30pm (followed by DJs till late)

Team size: 4-6 people (negotiable if there are only a few of you though!)

SUGGESTED DONATION of £3 per person - but whatever you can give, small or large, the gesture will be very much appreciated and it will ALL go to the PIAS fund.
