andygardener
The broad principle of attacking the street gangs does seem like a fairly common sense one in that by removing their influence it gives a vague chance for the softer social measures to actually achieve positive results for young people who would have had been sucked into gangs. Street gangs are primarily funded by drug money, the lure of the money is that you get nice stuff, especially in a lifestyle where death can be round any corner deferred reward is not a big draw so it's not beyond the wit of man to make life not a lot of fun for gang members/leaders with a strong multi agency approach. Car taxed? No, we crush it, yes we want an audit trail of how you got the money to tax it. Car insured? No, we crush it, yes we want an audit trail of how you got the money to tax it. Council tax paid? No, you go to jail, yes we want an audit trail of how you got the money to pay it. Loads of bling, show us the receipts from where you bought it. Then show how you have the money to pay for that. Then the big boy, lets see your tax returns and if they marry up with any of the stuff you have. No? You're going to jail and we're taking all your stuff as the procedes of crime. Kids in poor areas look up to gangsters because they have material stuff, take that away, and keep jailing them for every little thing and the kids are not going to aspire to be them. I'm always dubioud about governments following through on promises but if they did on this then it would make a huge difference to a lot of kids lives and we might actually start the first generation of marginalised youths who looked forward to a mainstream future rather than ever more violence and nihlism. dimbat
What a great idea, we will need at least 200 more prison to keep putting all those scum away, Building the prison will create employment, And all those prison guards will makw 0% employment as either they are working as prison guards or they are in jail

LDeville
Hi We would initially suspend gangs. however, if they chose to desist the suspension, we'd ban them for life, fact
