beady
I'm trying to ascertain if a relative worked at Wentworth Woodhouse as a maid around 1899. The 1891 Census is too early for her to have been there and I think she would have left by the 1901 Census. Her name was Emily Sylvester, she would have been in her late teens and lived in Thorpe Village. Whether she 'lived in' or not I don't know but it would have been only a relatively short walk home if she didn't? Anyone any ideas where I could start to look? Another query - does anyone know which Fitzwilliam went to Canada abround this time?
Blackbeard
I believe that Sheffield Archives may have the records of staff, give them a call. It was Viscount Milton who went off looking for the North West Passage on foot, you can read all about it in a facsimile copy of the original book from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/111773742X/ref=oss_product or a book by his great-great-grandson of Viscount Milton who retraced his ancestors journey http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0771011326/ref=oss_product beware that someone wants £500,000.00 for a new copy!!
