Anyone been caught speeding - new bit of M1 with Gantry cameras?

Recommended Posts

The new bit of the M1 from Chesterfield down towards Nottingham has speed camera signs and in some of the gantrys there are speed cameras. Has anyone ever been caught by any of these?

It's easy to see the gantrys with cameras as they are in roughly the same place on both sides of the motorway, (so you can see the cameras on the other side) but I was wondering if they are real.

Please don't bother posting if you are just going to drone on about not speeding.

Just to set the record straight, speed cameras are nothing to do with speed. The correct term for them should be "revenue collection cameras".

In that case I have nothing further to add, other than to ask:

Why do you want to know if the road-safety cameras are functional or not?

If you going to hitch up to one side of the boring, man-in-the-pub cliched, hackneyed and well-worn anti-camera argument, make sure you get hold of the correct part of the cliche and use the correct tag-line.

They have, in fact, everything to do with speed. What else do they do but measure speed? Some suggest, as you meant to no doubt, that they have nothing to do with safety.

Ralge retires with flak helmet firmly in place.

Revenue collection cameras are what they are called hereabouts - we all don't live inside the Sheffield bubble - thank God.
