JFKvsNixon
Well if public transport is packed full it generally means there is a lot of people, hence a strain on the public services. If you go back 40 years there was not half as many people using public transport and there was not half the strain on things such as the NHS ect Most people would conclude that if the public transport is packed, than extra public transport is needed. truman
We could argue whether the country could have accommodated that number for ever, as we are talking about opinions and failed predictions but not facts. However, my point still stands the powers that in the 1960s the powers that be thought we could have accommodated a much lager population than we currently have today. . The fact they thought it then means nothing today...it's irrelevant in my opinion..
JFKvsNixon
In the 60's we expected a nuclear war, to reduce the population. Are you sure as that that was part of the plans, as that would have probably reduced our population to levels not seen before medieval times, in any. It is more relevant to the debate that full buses somehow can suggest that the country is full up eh?
Mattyhill
Which only proves we need more public transport. What's that got to do with immigration? I'd say the opposite. Car ownership has grown consistently since the 1950s. Nothing really to do with immigration but was just proving the point that the busier public transport is, The more populated an area is, as you was saying there is no relation ship between them, And yes car owner ship has gone up thats just showing again that the population is going up and up

Quinnwok
Are you sure as that that was part of the plans, as that would have probably reduced our population to levels not seen before medieval times, in any. To be honest its pointless. So much has changed since the 60's. The prediction has no value.

mj.scuba
The notion of the country being full is a difficult one because it suggests a sort of arbitrary capacity. IMO, there are various indicators all well discussed in the media, which constitute a body of evidence to suggest that net immigration has been too high since 1998 and continues to be.
