I am just curious , were many bevin boys conscripted to work in our local pits ? and where did they live , were houses provided or did they have to take up lodgings ? My pals dad was a bevin boy he came up with his brother from Northampton to work in the pits, he lived in Beighton and has never gone back to Northhampton. My Dad was a Bevin boy, But at the time I was at school, so did not realise what he was doing,he was working on the railway one minute and down the pit the next,he was at the Nunnery pit,It was not until he passed away and I was clearing out his flat I found in his belongings a card telling him to report to the pit,I actually still have the card Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
