The Donkey Hill

I remember going down Wincobank hill on cardboard boxes.

The time that sticks out in my memory I was wearing short cut-off jeans. Got halfway down the hill and the box got caught on something and stopped, but I kept on going. I still have a couple of faint scars from the staples that were sticking out of the cardboard!

i can remember that, the tree was the king of the woods fell of ita few times

I used to go to firthpark with my mates from pitsmoor we found a car bonnet and about 5 of us got on and slid down the donkey hill it shot down a lot faster than cardboard we ended up in the little brook at the bottom all battered black & blue.

Loved the Donkey Hill, only problem was it got so slippy from the cardboard boxes, getting back up again was nigh on impossible. Wore many a pair of trousers out in them days, going down the Hill on bits of cardboard. Always popped into Rotheries (fishmongers) for my boxes on a Saturday morning, before heading down there. Would have been in the early 70's. Great times!!

Digging up clay to try and make things where the brook came out of the metal grate. Vague memories of trying to get in the tunnel as well.
