Anna B
There is so much wrong with the EU I don't know where to start. It has been proved to be a hotbed of corruption and waste, so if we (and other European countries) are so desparate to save money, why do we continue to pour it into this bottomless pit without demanding it puts its house in order first? And when are we going to get the promised referendum?
upinwath
If a company didn't produce certified accounts for 16 years - hang on - 16 years. The company would have been closed down after two but the EU managed 16 up to 2010. It's a pathetic job designed to keep failed politicians in work when they're no longer electable in their home country or are so corrupt, they'd probably get arrested if they stayed at home. andyofborg
And when are we going to get the promised referendum? the promised referendum was in relation to the proposed constitution which failed to be ratified in several other countries and so was dropped. the lisbon treaty which encapsulated some, but by no means all, of the changes proposed by the constitution was viewed by the government of the day to be ratifiable without a referendum which they did. by the time of the last election the treaty had been ratified and implemented and so it would be impossible to unratify it. in both cases, a referendum would have been a pointless and expensive waste of time. Anna B
How can you take seriously anything a politician says regarding the country's debt etc, with this elephant in the room? We need an enquiry along the lines of the MPs expenses scandal - but then that hardly punished the offenders either. Write something on facebook that they don't like and you get 4 years, after all we must crack down on offenders to deter others, but steal hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayer's money and it is ignored - in fact you'll probably get a knighthood. The EU will only "work" if there is a political union; 20 odd countries sharing a currency, even though they all have quite different systems and languages was just doomed to fail. grafikhaus74
And when are we going to get the promised referendum? Why bother? If they got the 'wrong' answer, they'd just do what they did with Denmark and Ireland. Keep asking until they got the 'right' answer.
