buck
No. Hurricanes are a perfectyly normal act of nature just like quakes and tornados. Hurricanes along the east coast have happened beforeAccording to Republicans, President Obamaeither caused the hurricane or did nothing to stop it. The accusation that he did nothing to stop it is accurate. After all, there is nothing that possibly can be done to stop a hurricane.

That never stoppped NOAA from doing research in the 1950's to see if the new H-bombs had enough power to disrupt a storm. The answer was "yes - probably they do" For some reason though they were reluctant to try a test so close to the mainland for some unfathomable reason.... I think maybe I can guess the reason. But I think, in light of what we know nowadays about hurricanes, that their conclusion was wrong. You could drop a hydrogen bomb into the middle of a hurricane and the increase in overall energy would barely register.
Obelix
Actually the figures I've seen show that a couple of 25Mt bombs will do an excellent job on even a fairly large hurricane - you don;t want to drop them into the middle though. You dump them where the air is falling, so when the fireball rises it disrupts flow. A hurricane developes about the same amount of power as a very large H bomb so it's reasonable to assume that it can have a significant effect. Of course, the fallout issues even from a clean 97% weapon are still significant.. :-)
