silverknight
After doing a little research I discovered that Sheffield had youth hostels in Sheffield: Ewden Valley (former water board huts) until 1966 - some wooden huts still standing I believe however guess the former youth hostel is not one of these. Birley Edge ( from information found so far it was only open one season 1944/45) My guess it was a farm - if anyone has any further information or even pictures that would be great. hillsbro
I remember staying in a youth hostel at Ewden around 1961. I still have my Ewden Youth Hostel badge. There was also a small youth hostel not far away at Langsett..

Blackburnrod
I stayed at Ewden YH in 1960 wuth my future wife and her sister. There was another hostel near Sheffield in Cordwell Valley called Peakley Hill. There was also Leam Hall near Grindleford. I still have my hostel cards from that era (sad old git!),and have used my life membership this year.
Jon26
I've got an old rucksack somewhere with a Leam Hall YH cloth badge sewn on. My favourite YH is I think Hartington. There used to be some bed ones too, I can't decide whether my vite goes to Thirlmere or Dinas Mawddwy ...

Always thought it a shame Sheffield doesn't have a proper tourist hostel for backpackers in the city centre.
