Norfolk pub.(bottom of lane)stories

Recommended Posts

Jerry and Pat were great pals of ours, they went with us to Benidorm Fiesta the first time they ever went, The trip was from the norfolk pub.

They were at the Britannia at the time and also the Landlord and landlady of the greyhound went as well as Charlie and Shirley from the Norfolk, Malc Seargent was there as well. I have had some great times with Jerry and Pat.

One day in Benidorm the banks all closed down because Benidorm was flooded with countrfeit money, Jerry had a big wad of pesetas and looked after us all with spanish money until the banks re-opened.

They went to the Sheffield Arms after the Norfolk,

bleeding hell not like him;).

I was in the Sheffield Arms the day Gerry moved in & I thought they came direct from the Brit.Known Gerry since the 60s when he lived on Parson X where, among other things,he used to run a betting shop.He was also our football manager when we used to play on Colley wreck, just past Wordsworth Tavern.Tell you what,he had a big 'hair-dryer'for a little bloke.:loopy:

The shop lifters used to hold up their loot to the window from outside to see if you wanted to buy anything.

Brought a new meaning to 'window shopping'!!!

While I was visiting my Uncle Ken Morris there a young guy came in all breathless and opened his coat to show a load of gold chains. Said he'd just pulled a job and told us how he'd cased the joint and waited for for the jeweller to go to lunch etc.

While I was admiring the chains, almost tempted, Ken banged his cane on the table and told him to get lost. Said they were all fake and the kid had been in weeks before with the same story!

That was Jerry Frith, my grandad and my nan pat. They had a few pubs on attercliffe and also eles where, the golden ball on attercliffe and sheffield arms upwell street been the main ones, he also used to be a brickie and knew alot of the people who went in the norfolk arms befor he took it over.

Jerry & Pat also had the sandwich shop across from the ball,

my dad used to help them sometimes in the ball, that would have been your great grandad :)
