upinwath
http://natfinals.webuda.com/50s_60s/Germany1969.html Siw Malmkvist had already represented Sweden in 1960 (even though she didn't even take part in the 1960 Swedish Final). She also won the 1959 and 1961 Swedish Finals, but didn't get to go to the Eurovision as she was replaced by other singers. Siw also came 2nd in the 1962 German Final. At the Eurovision she was equal 9th. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmtP5o3CtU4 But I think this is what you're after. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodifestivalen_1961#Melodifestivalen_1961 Seems the lass won but some bugger didn't like her so the second place was chosen instead. This year the selection is transmitted via the Northern Vision and this year also to Finland. Just like last year performed each song twice. Inger Berggren would have been, but had tonsillitis and was replaced by Lily Berglund. The winner was Siw Malmkvist and Gunnar Wiklund with April, May. The blackboard had come to honor than once during the relatively smooth voting round. Siwan was criticized in the press afterwards, when she came to her when she sang. She forgot the text, sang, laughed and whistled instead. With gestures, she urged the audience to stop laughing. This was a real charming classics afterwards. The press felt that she "played monkey" and thus usurped the advantage over the audience and jury. Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson got to go to Eurovision in Cannes instead. She told me at a TV interview that she, however, had been very reluctant to set up. She thought that Siw had made the song so well and was afraid of what the public would think when she somehow took Siw place. And she could not "vittsla" as she put it. All songs, except "In Our Heart", was released on disc in the same year or two years later. Text © Michael Jackson & Gylleneskor.se 2005

But thanks so much. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodifestivalen Voting irregularities? You'll have fun trying to find newspapers of the time as there was no internet and no computers. You may be lucky and find PDF files of old papers. You'll have to search for names of their papers and the date. You may drop lucky. It was fun searching for the story with little by way of clues.
