Assuming Britain actually is a secular country- can it remain so?

Being as obtuse as ever I notice.

Not at all; if anyone's being obtuse it's you.

Garments that cover the face aren't prohibited.

That's a very simple fact and it's true.

That police officers can ask a person to remove something covering their face doesn't alter that.

Indeed they could be asked, but unfortunately, no one dare do it.

How the hell do you know? I've never had reason to ask someone to remove their face covering, have you? Perhaps we should ask the police service what they do when the need arises?

(2)This subsection confers power on any constable in uniform—.

(a)to require any person to remove any item which the constable reasonably believes that person is wearing wholly or mainly for the purpose of concealing his identity;.

(b)to seize any item which the constable reasonably believes any person intends to wear wholly or mainly for that purpose..

That doesn't alter BF's point that there is no prohibition on garments that cover the face.

Thank you Halibut, just as it doesn't alter your earlier point about a prohibition on men wearing suits and a balaclava.

You're arguing over a technicality in the wording which could be, but isn't enforced by police. Double standard!!

Do you need an eight count BF?:D

Do you know what the law means?

It doesn't place a ban on face coverings, it places a requirement on people to reveal their face to a policeman if they're so required to do for identification purposes.

What are you wanting the police to enforce? They've no reason to believe someone wearing a burka are doing so to 'conceal their identity', as far as I know women wear the burka for reasons of modesty.
