Cyclone
If there wasn't there would be no reason for a law that asks you to remove it. There isn't. There's a law that allows a police officer to ask you to remove it in certain circumstances. That's clearly not the same as it being illegal to wear it in the first place. Cyclone
Wouldn't their experience also tell them that security is being compromised due to people automatically presuming that all Niqab wearers are Muslim women that pose very little risk? No more than assuming that someone in a business suit probably isn't committing a crime. Also, if you're correct and it is being compromised then where are the crimes that were unsolved because the perp was wearing a niquab?
boyfriday
Exactly, If so required. You still can't be having problems in finding the double standard surely? More innuendo?
retep
Provided he has a 'reasonable belief' you're wearing the face covering to conceal your identity. If it was just about a face covering then motorcycle riders and milkmen wearing balaclavas would be routinely stopped and asked to remove their helmet/balaclavas and have them confiscated, but being the common sense guy you obviously are I'm sure you'd agree this rarely happens. See, no spin required. But the debate was, "Originally Posted by boyfriday But there doesn't exist a prohibition on any garment that covers the face and there never has been." when it's quite obvious there does, and is. boyfriday
(2)This subsection confers power on any constable in uniform—. (a)to require any person to remove any item which the constable reasonably believes that person is wearing wholly or mainly for the purpose of concealing his identity;. (b)to seize any item which the constable reasonably believes any person intends to wear wholly or mainly for that purpose.. I must have misread your post, I assumed there was a sentence saying "people wearing a burka are from exempt from these requirements"

There isn't any prohibition on wearing anything that covers the face. You're just plain wrong.

There isn't a law asking you to do anything. There is a law that allows a police officer to ask you to remove it in some circumstances and to seize it in other, even more specific circumstances. It's not illegal to own a screw driver and pry bar. But a police officer can arrest you for carrying them in some circumstances and seize them as evidence. Are you now going to claim that it is illegal to own screw drivers and pry bars? You think it's like talking to the three stooges. I think it's like trying to explain the obvious to a simpleton! Or someone pretending to be one.
