splodgeyAl
That's a very long winded way to descale a kettle. But requiring no effort on my part (apart from making cups of tea), and no chemical either
Plopqwerty
Is this true? Are there any cheaper alternatives or other suggestions for care of a washing machine? Is this something we even have to worry about? Is our water particularly hard? It's about 25p a tablet http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-price-comparison/Laundry/Calgon_Express_Ball_Tablets_45.html Multiply that by how many times you use your washer. 300 times per year seems to be an average in UK for a family of 4 300 x 25 p is £75 Average life of an average washer is 5 years. 5 x £75 is £375 Save the cash

I'm sure mine have all lasted a lot longer than that. For anyone living in a hard water area just use citric acid to descale. It's available on eBay at a few quid a kilo. But since most of Sheffield is soft water (even with the Yorkshire Water changes) you don't need Calgon.
