Jim Hardie
No one should be paid by the state to have more than two children. This is the solution and it disadvantages no one: Tomorrow the government should announce that commencing in nine months time child benefit will cease in respect of all new births of third and subsequent children. By mid 2028 the millstone would be off our necks. If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em.
HeadingNorth
No one should be paid by the state to have more than two children. This is the solution and it disadvantages no one It quite severely disadvantages children who are born to families already having two children, who can't afford to raise a third. Stvoider
It quite severely disadvantages children who are born to families already having two children, who can't afford to raise a third. It's hard to disagree with that. The only people who would (in this example) endanger their children would be those who had more that two.
Jim Hardie
It quite severely disadvantages children who are born to families already having two children, who can't afford to raise a third. Perhaps I should have said it disadvantages no one unless the parents wish to disadvantage their children.
HeadingNorth
Perhaps I should have said it disadvantages no one unless the parents wish to disadvantage their children. That would be accurate. But are the general public willing to stand by and let children suffer because their parents are selfish?
ronthenekred
It's hard to disagree with that. The only people who would (in this example) endanger their children would be those who had more that two. It seems that the totally innocent child would suffer for the parent in order to make a point. If a couple decide on having a child (innocent) under the proposed scenario of not being able to provide then go through with it, what would be the point of taking draconian measures to victimise the child after the fact? The state at every social level almost, has a responsibility for the mess it created on this issue...both left and right. It shouldn't be about what can we do to those after the fact..but concentrate on how you nurture and educate the idea that it isn't a good thing in present society that has a spook complex. Giving birth is normal, restricting it on grounds other than health seems rather odd to me. And why stop a two? Why not zero? 1-2-4-6-8...it's all a drain. Isn't it? Whatever it costs to subsidise the ill considered actions of two adults against the removal of the child into care, then multiply your drain 10 fold..if not more...which defeats the whole object. Number Six
What would happen if people responsibly decided to have one child, but had a multiple birth and ended up with quads, quins, sextuplets or more?
Mr Prime
At the end of the day we are held to emotional ransom, any moron can pump em out and stick their hand out saying they are entitled to cash.
