Euroboy77
I need to strip a room back to the plaster. It is papered with wood chip and has 40 years of emulsions (several coats). So far I have only managed to strip about 3 square ft. The paper is very brittle and will only come off in small 6 inch strips before tearing off. Has anybody got any good advice or pro-tips? Amaranthus
Invest in a steamer. Seconded! They are great! Makes the job quite fun and satisfying actually.

Daven
I managed to strip a full room of wood chip with 40 years of emulsion on it - tearing off the top layer and then soaking the under layer with soapy water before scraping that off. It took a very long time and I would strongly recommend hiring a steamer for a few hours - you will get it done in no time. Good luck !
saxon51
Use a knife to 'score' the surface about every 3 inches or so before soaking it with a sponge. The water will penetrate better. Protect the floor though.
Bojolo
if you don't want to buy/rent a steamer just get out the steam iron and an extension lead. Don't let the iron touch the paper though! Just bump it up to top setting and pump the steam button.

cbr900
From experience , dont bother with a steamer . They have their uses , but not on woodchip , complete waste of time . Score it with a knife then soak it with a sponge and i mean soak it !!!!
