danot
I need to strip a room back to the plaster. It is papered with wood chip and has 40 years of emulsions (several coats). So far I have only managed to strip about 3 square ft. The paper is very brittle and will only come off in small 6 inch strips before tearing off. Has anybody got any good advice or pro-tips? Cross slice it with a stanley bade then steam it.
Euroboy77
Thanks for all your comments & advice. I think I'll try the cross scoring with a Stanley knife and soaking with hor soapy water. I don't want to invest in a steamer just to do 1 room and then not use it for another 10 years Thanks again
MonkeyLover
As others have said, definately use a steamer, they are marvellous! Might be a good idea to score it first as well.
gnvqsos
Score and spray with windscreen washer-only use steam on modern walls as it damages lime finish.
carosio
Cross slice it with a stanley bade then steam it. That's right, but don't cut too deep! I have also used a garden spray to soak the walls, but you will have to wait a good 20mins or so for the water to penetrate the cuts, so work one section whilst waiting for the other to soak. BritPat
Make sure that it is over 18 and it holds relevant licenses from local authority.
neeeeeeeeeek
I borrowed 2 steamers, pluggeed them both in and shut the door. Whe I went back an hour later it was like a steam room and the paper and even the 20 layers of paint on the ceiling pretty much fell off!
