Atheism: new religion?

So, what about a member of the public who wonders what an atheist actually is, goes to their dictionary, which happens to be the Longman 'top pocket English dictionary' and sees-

atheism n belief that there is no God -ist n

Then they'd be using a crap dictionary, as the OED states (for atheism):

atheism

n noun disbelief in the existence of a god or gods.

Do atheists never experience the feeling of having "faith"? No necessary the faith in god but just faith in general.

What does the world "faith mean" to them?

Religious faith is different to faith in general:

faith

n noun

1 complete trust or confidence.

2 strong belief in a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.

I know it doesn't exist.

OK.

Show us some proof that it doesn't.

I don't like it when people do it in an arrogant way and use verbal violence like some fanatic religious and atheist people do.

ps: I like sarcasm, shame you didn't really get my point

"force"?

"arrogant"?

"verbal violence"?

I think I have to concur with flamingjimmy, don't be such a drama queen.

If you don't like what a'theists say, don't read their articles or listen to them. If there's one thing that they're not doing it's forcing you to believe a certain way. As if that's even possible with an adult anyway.

I did have a knock on the door from Christians yesterday though.

Yes.

Maybe.

:gag:

The whole point of the GFSM church is that it is a human invention.

so is god!

The point of FSM is that there is no more reason to believe in your particular god than there is to believe in FSM.

Say llamatron what does the GFSM do?

What is he to the universe?

What is he to us?

Does he just fly around in the air for no reason?

Is he earth based?

WHOOOSH there goes that military flyby again!

Yes they are. No all atheists of course.

I have talked to many of them. It is the reason why I opened this thread.

They don't just disagree.

They don't only say "I don't believe in god".

They tell other people that they shouldn't believe in god.

It works both ways though doesn't it? In my experience there's more religious people telling others they SHOULD believe in a god than atheists telling people they SHOULDN'T believe in a god. As far as I'm concerned nobody has a right to tell others what to believe in.

As I've said many times before, I would genuinely like to hear people's reasons for believing in their god(s) in the first place, it's just not easy to find anyone who will openly discuss it.

I have never heard an atheist say that!

Its the same being a veggie, meat eaters attack you every time you go to a barbecue but then we only hear about militant veggies!
