Pro-Israeli groups cancels Palestinian childrens' art

Shameful behaviour from them. What are Israeli pressure groups trying to hide ?

SAN FRANCISCO -- An Oakland children's museum, citing pressure from the community, canceled a planned exhibit of artwork by Palestinian youth that depicted the Israeli assault during the 2008-09 Gaza conflict.

The Museum of Children's Art was scheduled to display the art from Sept. 24 to Nov. 13. The exhibit had been in the works for several months, with an opening reception to feature poetry and special art activities for children.

The drawings in the exhibit were created by children ranging in age from about 9 to 11 and included bombs dropping, tanks and people getting shot.

"They are pictures of what these children experienced. It's their experience," said Barbara Lubin, executive director of the Middle East Children's Alliance, which was organizing the exhibition.

And for those of you who think it was unsuitable :

Yet it wouldn't have been the first time the museum has featured wartime art by children.

In 2007, it exhibited paintings made during World War II by American children in the Kaiser shipyard child care center. The art featured images of Hitler, burning airplanes, sinking battleships, empty houses and a sad girl next to a Star of David.

In 2004, art by Iraqi children hung on the museum's walls. The pictures, made shortly after the U.S. invasion, included a picture of a helicopter shooting into a field of flowers.

The art by the Palestinian children was similar in content.

In one colorful picture, a row of buildings burns as five tanks move through the area. In the foreground, women and children are crying as are trees and the sun. What looks like a small, abandoned teddy bear lies face up in the street.

Atrocities against innocent civilians? Turkey and Egypt are meeting this week to ratchet up the pressure on Israel. Until recently these were the two most pro-Israel Muslim states, but not any longer. Israelis are demonstrating against bad economic conditions. Israel will have to sue for peace at some point and accept a Palestinian state or their economy will collapse.

Just stop attacking Zion and peace will happen. It's not hard for your average human to grasp.

Not sure if the terrorists in Tel Aviv will do that. Peace is just too much for them.

At some point though they will have to accept that. The IRA and Paisley accepted it over Ireland. Military victory on either side is impossible and even if acheived would only store up trouble for the future. A negotiated political settlement that acepts a Palestinian state is the only realistic option even if some people would not accept it as has happened with the Good Friday Agreement. If it brought peace in the medium term that would still be better than the situation now. It would delay the question of the Arab states accepting the right of Israel to exist but the GFA has delayed the question of a united Ireland and peace is holding.

Good, nothing but Islamic propaganda.

what is propaganda? I don't understand, are you saying that Israel didn't invade Gaza, that people weren't killed, that the dead included children, that children weren't witness to killings and bereaved?

Your point doesn't make sense, or are you saying that those kids have no right to express their views and experiences as human beings, the problem with the loony right zionist faction, is that you have lost the sense that palestinians are people, human beings, fathers, mothers and children and that is why much of the world despises the Israeli state - what do you have to fear from an exhibition of children's art? except that it humanizes those that you despise and whose suffering you relish.

That's outrageous. How dare anybody become offended by other people's art and attempts to express themselves, it's totally outrageous that a Jewish group made a request like that. The next thing you know next time somebody draws something they don't like there will be death threats and murder attempts against the artists, bombing, riots which result in the death of hundreds, armed raids on embassies.

Oh actually, hang on, that actually happened and it was all done by Muslims! Bit hypocritical to start whinging about other people's right to express themselves really.
