9/11 lest we forget

Recommended Posts

Watched the memorial ceremony this morning from New York. Paul Simon sang "The Sound of Silence" and families of the victims read out the names of their loved ones

In a way 9/11 wasn't only a crime against America but the rest of the world. Listening to the names made me realize that the victims bore names that either their forefathers had brought to America from all over the world or that many of the victims came from so many other countries and cultures and fate and circumstances had brought them to New York that day.

9/11 was also the highest loss of life of Brits in a terrorist attack.

Would be interesting to know the number of victims from other countries.

Tried to google it but didn't get anywhere

372 from other countries in the actual attacks of 9/11.

At least 919,967 in Afghanistan and Iraq since the U.S. and coalition attacks, based on lowest credible estimates.

Yes, that's right 66. 7/7 was 52 so not that far behind and of course 770 were injured.

On the other hand UK troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan is 557.

Wrong thread. Find an Iraq/Afghanistan thread on another day and we may talk about it. Not on this thread today though.

The day the world changed forever.

I flew out on holiday on September 10th 2001

I was holidaying in a muslim country and the sense of fear, dismay, shock and sorrow was overwhelming. I'll never forget that day as I'm sure millions of others wont.

May all the victims rest in peace and what a beautiful tribute the lakes/waterfalls are which now take up the position of ground zero.
