chem1st
Insurance companies are granted a monopoly by the state, it is a disgrace. Somebody gets injured and the NHS picks up the bill, an NHS paid for by your taxes. The high insurance costs ensure big bonuses for banker scum. You are being robbed! Sarkysod
62 year old with a 12 year old BMW 316, last year was £450, this year same company wanted £1,900. So left Iggy Pop for the scousers. It's a complete rip off.

Should be singular if a monopoly which is not applicable.Insurance companies can be independent of the banks.

High insurance costs have nothing to do with bankers bonuses per se. While some insurance companies are linked to banks this isnt standard across the board and its your choice to go with a bank connected company or an independent company. If someone gets injured in a car accident it isnt just the NHS picking up the bill, its also the insurance company. An increase in these costs is being directly put back onto everyone paying for insurance.

Scutts
Unfortunately it's just another example of rip-off Britain. My insurance doubled this year (48 yrs old, 8 years no claims, no points, 2005 Focus C-max TDCi) I looked around but almost all the quotes were the same! The worst were Aviva and Direct Line who advertise that they give you so many free weeks but as the starting point is twice what anyone else quotes, it just makes you laugh.
