Number Six
Unlike a car, a horse won't hurtle through the nearest wall if you let go of the controls. So I see no problem with them talking on their mobiles. Aw heck - didn't realise it was the horses on phones. That's going to make them unstable. banjodeano
I give the rider a good beep of the horn to let them know I am behind them. Better be safe than sorry...

alchresearch
It seems some on here are comparing a car - a mechanical vehicle under control and instruction from a driver with a horse - an animal which can be unpredictable. I've seen horses rear up and do all kinds of unpredictable things - one where a dog in a field rushed to the gate and started barking at the horse, spooking it and the rider. The rider having full control (ie both hands) and concentration and observation for obstacles is nothing but a good thing.
