How Do You Get A Cheap Holiday??

Recommended Posts

Just the other day my wife and I called into Thompsons at Crystal Peaks hoping to bag a late booking cheapy holiday. We told them we wanted all inclusive that we were not fussy about the destination and we could go the next day!.Did we have any luck,no chance. The reductions were miniscule in fact it was extra for this extra for extra for that, according to the tv experts there are lots of bargains,it seems they would rather send the plane empty than reduce prices. After a wasted hour we left it and departed, anybody got any tips?.:help::roll:

Yes, there are a lot of cheap holidays. Only if you go at a certain time (when the companies cannot sell them, and therefore why it is discounted). Or if you buy the different components separately and as a DIY holiday package.

TV experts say there are cheap holidays. They are never the ones sold through your local Thompsons, or directly from the companies themselves. It is always through some kind of brokers at a cheaper discounted rate or last minute deals that they cannot sell on but agreed to have that quota for originally.

I shop mostly online, using consolidated search engines which gives me a listing of ALL types of holidays in one view. I am not sure if they are covered by ATOL, but they are mostly "buy asap, no frills" type of holidays.

If you are the type of person who goes to Thompsons, then my guess is that you like packaged holidays, rather than DIY ones. Then consider these particular sites ?

I did a scan for you. The Travel Supermarket and Opodo seems to have a "real time" update or prices, as they are under < 200 GBP. Mostly European beach type places.

I never do this silly bargain business. Cos I do not like arguing. If I do not see the right pricing, I walk away. The above links are ones I have found in my own time, and have seen as more credible and stable in their pricing strategies.

Good luck surfing!

[Added] By the way, Turkey is apparently more value money these days as a packaged holiday destination. Most of my European colleagues go there now for full board deals. So there should be more available. Spain and Greece is a tad more pricy now.

You are leaving it far too late;few planes will have empty seats with canny paarents taking kids out of school for cheap hols and students getting away before term starts.

Yeh, I just realised the exact words you wrote. Packaged holidays do not do "last next day" cheap deals. Their cheap deals are mostly to travel within 1-2 weeks' time. The only "last minute cheap deals" (like tomorrow) I know of, are normally flights or hotel rooms from lastminute.com. You then have to find your own hotel once you get to the destination and so forth. It means having to create your own DIY deals.

You can normally still find cheap deals within a 1-3 months period of booking before departure time. Yet, only if those destinations are not the most popular or the peak season though. Most are new hotels trying to break the market, or new destinations that are available cos of the Euro Vs Pounds fluctuation.
