Why not allow people to grow their own cannabis for a small fee?

Recommended Posts

The fact that cannabis is readily available on all counts will ensure it will stay banned ,the powers that be are unable to close the doors and if it was legalised the users would find that duty would be heavily levied on the product therefore opening the black market up possibly wider because the powers that be cant shut the doors .....back to square one

In the last post you said you KNOW it will never be legal, now you're saying it would be heavily levied! How do you KNOW all this stuff? And how do they levy something that will remain illegal?

Simple, because while you are pushing to allow someone to grow plants there is no other market available ,beer is available widely so obviously is bread and farming crops so their is no need and no profit in a home grower trying to sell home grown, the opposite would be true with cannabis.

Remember prohibition in the States when alcohol was banned and its affects.

That's the current situation. Canabis is banned and you have a similar affect to how prohibition affected alcohol.

But allowing everyone to grow their own would remove most of the current existing market.

The next step is to allow it to be commercialised and then there is no market at all for the criminal, only for proper businesses.

I said its never going to happen in the near future ..as for your lottery numbers thats not a problem perm any 6 from 49...simples ...you win

No you didn't..

You have just answered the question, thats never going to happen so the thread is pointless to a degree.I gave my opinion on the present laws concerning drugs and the manufacture of them and I doubt that those laws concerning cannabis will ever be relaxed again, not in the near future anyway

...see?

The current illegal product is massively hiked in price due to the illegality.

Who'd bother to smuggle it in from wherever if it wasn't worth very much.

There isn't a massive market in smuggled booze, and that has a high rate of duty on it. There is a small market in smuggled tobacco, but that doesn't particularly create crime, it just looses the government tax revenue (and at the moment they make no tax revenue on cannabis sales).

What's the market if everyone is free to grow it?

Do you see lettuce wars, after all anyone is free to grow them...

Thats o.k if their is a commercial outlet and manufacturing means in place, dont forget not every user will be able to afford or have the ways and means and inclination to grow the product so there will still be a viable market for the stuff and as I read the OP which doesnt seem to promote selling it a market would still cause problems..Utopia is a long long way away Im afraid, you still have to pay the piper.

How can tax be applied to something that is grown by oneself for oneself?

There lies the reason why it will not be allowed ,you allow home growers you have to allow mass production which leads us back to the point I have already mentioned ..mass production..taxes,distribution costs dearer product..simple economics..dearer products black market among growers back to square one..its not rocket science..how many people are doing time because of the black market on beer and tobacco and what is the reason for the black market ? and why are culprits in prison, after all they hurt no one ...only the pockets of the rich

So there will be LESS demand for supply than there currently is, meaning LESS "drug wars".

Hang on, I thought the reason was because politicians are too scared of the stigma?
