And for every burglar who gets caught and has his life in a mess in jail, there are probably a majority whose lives are boosted by the profit of their theft.

Like the 'successful' drug takers though, they are still criminals.

The crucial difference is of course the moral dimension -

Breaking into someone's home and stealing their property = wrong, immoral

Choosing to ingest a natural substance for pleasure = not wrong, not immoral.

Ah, so breaking the law is ok as long as it's not a law you agree with?

Oh, I forget - you know far more about drugs than the UK Government or BMA. Of course you do!

It's an unjust law.

Two questions for you to ponder.

a) If it became illegal to drink alcohol tomorow, would you never drink alcohol again?

b) Why should the state be allowed to decide what an adult is and isn't allowed to ingest?

Another question you might like to consider.

If a person smokes some cannabis, who (other than that person) comes to any harm?

I may answer your previous 2 questions if you answer mine - you haven't yet.

As for the one above, do you really not know who else comes to harm?

Their employer who loses revenue due to their poor performance.

Their family who have to deal with the lethargy, lack of drive and potentially long-term mental issues.

Their kids who may have to go hungry because they're paying for dope as a priority.

The victims of crime whose possessions are stolen to pay for drugs.

The innocent pedestrians or motorists they may kill or maim while driving while under the influence of drugs.

The taxpayer who has to fund their benefits when they lose employment.

Arguably, but lets say for the sake of argument that it's homegrown.
I guess it would be okay in your view for people to distil their own vodka as well?

And maybe make aspirin and paracetamol in their kichens and sell them as home recipe alternatives to mainstream pharmaceuticals?
