Mecky
I speak for myself not the Tories so I wouldn't know. So you admit you are stumped then?
green
You teach your child many of the important things in life; education is still free for all children although it is paid for out of taxation. Its not free when you are 18 years of age now. You take a loan out to pay for it. That loans has interest charged on it. You havent answered my earlier question. It's the same old tory addage, "I've benefitted directly from free health services and free education in the past but now it's time to pull up the drawbridge." Balpin
There is only so much of a child's education that is yours to give. That bit which the State cannot, or which it is not its remit to dispense. In that sense, you seem to be mistaking "education" (in its broad sense) for "higher education" for the sake of your argument. Last I checked, State primary and secondary schools are still free. Education is a marvellous thing. For the indivual it broadens the mind and gives the ability to gain knowlege. For the capitalist, it gives a person with the knowledge to advance his business as far as he wants. We are now seeing the decline of capitalism, and with it the decline in educational standards. We only need to look at television. The greatest teaching tool of all. It is now a load of rubbish, not fit for purpose at all. It is the greatest indicator of how our society has declined. I1L2T3
The crisis was inevitable because we were living on debt, busts always follow booms and we had avoided the crashes because of increased debt. Sooner or later there had to be a crash. I think you and I have already had this discussion so not much point doing it again. The economy was always going to fail at some point. All economies generally always do. That or fight their way out of a corner with a war. So yeah, it was perhaps inevitable but Gordon Brown isn't the bogey man that took down all the western economies.
truman
It's the same old tory addage, "I've benefitted directly from free health services and free education in the past but now it's time to pull up the drawbridge." Weren't they brought in by David Blunkett? Genuine question..

We only need to look at television. The greatest teaching tool of all. It is now a load of rubbish, not fit for purpose at all. It is the greatest indicator of how our society has declined. Last time I checked, TV wasn't a teaching tool at all, but an entertainment medium. That is still its primary function, as far as I can tell (I don't watch it much, admittedly)
green
18 year olds aren’t children they are adults. What earlier question. So because they are adults they just pay for an education that one generation earlier they would not have had to? I thought we were a developed society? How does taking away the next generations free education work here then? Please explain.
