where are the other options to vote no?

I worked with a girl who was on more money than me, married the father of her kids who was also earning a lot of money, but they were snug as a bug in their council house. They said they didn't have to move out, so why should they?

Instead of building more council houses, why not have them for the people who actually need them? Give them to people who are in dire circumstances, not offer them to teenagers who have kids just so they can get a house? Make the requirements more strict and maybe there would be enough to go around.

This has always been my view of council housing, it should be for the needy only. I also believe it should be first come fist serve and you should not be able to choose location or have the choice of turning properties down.

Why not allow everyone to have a council house, and build enough to meet the demand created by immigration. Ban the sale of them, and hey presto. Problem solved.

We could have a council renting democracy!

Why should the state provide a house for everyone? Can you name any other country in the world where this happens?

Why can't people rent or buy in the private sector? There is an abundance of housing in the private sector to rent at the moment.

Because it can, because its good for the country in the long term, because it's good for society (less poverty achieved through fairer rents = happy citizens = less crime)

It is profitable for the state.

Many countries have social housing. Look at Europe.

Why can't people rent or buy in the private sector? There is an abundance of housing in the private sector to rent at the moment.

Because it is overpriced (bidded up by housing benefit and implied yields for landlords)

Because they can't afford to.

Because housing benefit is paid to landlords and they are rewarded for doing nothing productive whatsoever.

God sake Chem1st how many more times.

Private rental is NOT overpriced. It is an open market fluctuated by supply and demand. When a market is slow prices go down. If you want a tenant desprately, you lower your price to attract interest. When was the last the council rents went down eh? Do council rents flucutate up and down in a open market.....errm.... NO.

People CAN afford private rental. The problem is people get too used to being funded wholly or subsidised by the state. They dont want to give up their cusy cushy arrangement. Take a look around sheffield. Lets say an average family of 2 adults with 2 kids. They need a minimum of a 2 bed house. Now lets have a look at the prices shall we.....

from £270 p/m - £1250p/m depending on size, location, features and style.

Unaffordable? Your kidding right.

Finally, landlords are not taking housing benefit for "doing nothing productive". What they are doing is providing a roof over someone's head! Its THEIR property. They dont have to rent it out. They have to do anything with it if thye should choose. However if they choose to let out THEIR property then they obviously should receive something for it.

Keep smoking the joints and you might understand the real world one day.

Your wrong ECONOOB, look at Obelix, he is a B2L Landlord and had the naivety to say he PRODUCES CAPITAL, he does nothing of the sort, he usurps it, and the state props the system up, the country is in a mess precisely because of this madness.

Massive social upheaval and change is a coming, and Landlords need to act now, for they will be first in the firing line, by denying the youth access to housing they are setting themselves up for a massive haircut and the longer this problem persists the increased likelihood of that haircut being form the neck up.

Pretty soon it ain't going to be about protecting wealth and getting a free ride of the backs of the poor, these people will be glad to be alive.
