Drugs Testing for Benefits

Conrod

Should claimants have to pass random drug tests to receive benefits?

  1. 1. Should claimants have to pass random drug tests to receive benefits?

    • Yes, and if they fail the tests have their benefits stopped until they can provide clear samples.
    • Yes, and if caught their benefits should be reduced by a percentage until they can pass.
    • They should only receive food and domestic service vouchers anyway, not money.
    • No, they should be able to spend other people's money any way they want, even illegally.

just because you're unemployed it doens't mean you shouldn' be able to have any fun. you think you should just sit at home looking for jobs 24/7 eating value beans and feeling bad because someone else is playing for it?

you'd top yourself.

I'm liking your style.

Don't be so dramatic. As I've said, if the government know about it should they fund it?

You didn't get my bit about the government being hypocritical if they do? I suppose they could legalise it and give it more legitimacy?

that would be a good idea, though that debate is being had in that other thread so Ive tryed not to rehash it in here.

The government also 'knowingly pay' for benefits claimants to smoke cigarettes, download porn, drink booze, pay for sex with prostitutes, eat fatty food and lottery tickets.

You could try to cut the benefits of people who indulge in all of those things and more - or you could just try and be liberal enough to take the view that adults, for the most part, aren't children that need protecting from themselves.

All of which are legal and sociably acceptable.

There's fun, which is okay, then there's the lifestyle of a waster, which I (mostly) think the big fuss on here is about, between the rational ones.

fair enough, I'm not down with people living on the dole their hole lives but this kind of law wouldn't differenciate between the two. Thats why Im against it/

You find paying for prostitutes and internet pornography socially acceptable?

I think smoking dope is much less unpleasant and repellent than either.

Each to their own.

No, Christ Halibut. I like weed, I'm a smoker. (Maybe a bit too much). ;)

The point is simply, how can the government be seen rewarding/paying for behaviour that it actively condemns?

Yes I'm being an arse and a little bit awkward but the point remains. Look at the outcry when money is spent on things like banks and wars (extreme I know) yet we're expecting the government to do the opposite here.

It's all simply a case of how we as a country need to grow up about drugs.

And regarding prostitutes and porn. I had one as a nipper and was robbed frankly and any man who pays for Internet porn is a prat when there's such things as redtube.

Rootsbuster my point about theft was that again, as soon as someone mentions drugs, theft is mentioned.
