Tony Erikson
The majority of burglars are using social media websites to help target victims and plan their crimes, a survey suggests. http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16077087 Were the original concerns correct and should street view now be banned? Cyclone
Aren't most burglaries impulse crimes? It said that the same amount use twitter and facebook, will you be asking if they should be banned as well?
Cyclone
Or, if people are worried, should they click the link that allows you to remove your home from street view. What gets left in it's place? If we ban street view, maybe we should ban people walking and/or driving around streets whilst looking in a direction perpendicular to the road... Presumably that's the old fashioned way of examining a property you might burgle.
Cyclone
So you can probably still see it at an angle then. I didn't realise there was even an option to have your house removed.

If I were wanting to move house I would look at any likely properties on Streetview, before I even visited them. If Streetview were not available, it wouldn't stop me buying a house. If Streetview wasn't available, it wouldn't stop Burglars from burgling. Streetview isn't the cause of burgling, even though it may be a tool used by them. Do we consider banning cars because some bank robbers use them as getaway cars. In short, the answer is no.

If you buy the more expensive version, you can zoom into peoples windows, for example the bathroom. Obviously not for perving reasons but to make sure there isn't a burglar in the house when your neighbour is in the shower
Halibut
If they encourage criminal behaviour then surely? They don't encourage it. They just facilitate it sometimes, like stockings, or sledgehammers or crowbars or mobile phones. You don't have an argument.
Cyclone
If they encourage criminal behaviour then surely? Encourage. What a strange word to use in this context. Like someone already said, does a car encourage bank robbery? Does a crow bar encourage burglary? Are you confusing 'is used as a tool' with 'encourages'. I'm convinced thats why we got burgled ... combined with Google Streetview and Facebook they can easily build up a picture. To this day, I'm sure it was somebody who knew us ... they just knew too much for it to be a coincidence, exactly where to get the car keys to make off with the car etc!
