LDeville
Hi Again, under the guise of 'Green Tax,' the gov is yet again hitting those that abide by the law, ie drive road legal cars. A tory think tank has proposed a tax of 3% in order to pay for the clean up and build new incinerators that are "greener" than current waste disposal burners. We are not sure re the ampunt of tax to be raised but beleive it will be hundreds of millions as more than a billions pounds worth of tyres are sold every year. We say forget this new tax, forget the insurance tax, forget the NI/Tqax, forget the PAYE tax, forget the BBC licence fee and push up VAT to a cool 36%. This way everyone pays. RootsBooster
Can you put more than one tax on something?
andygardener
Can you put more than one tax on something? Look at fuel. Cost of production + producer profit + cost of disribution + distibutor profit + cost of retail + retailer profit + big fat duty % for the government = total cost....... + 20% VAT on the lot including duty for the government. LDeville
Hi A bit more research and a discussion with a friend. Car tyre tax is common place is several of the American states and some EU nations. The so-called 'Green' tax will be sold as follows: Reduce the illegal disposal of tyres Support sustainable disposal and recovery processes Reduce the environmental risk from tyre stockpiles3 tax, on tax, on tax!!! Magilla
Hi. Well, if it's anything like the "TV size" tax you previously posted about, then it doesnt' exist.

I don't understand this quote, I work at a lot of waste management sites all over the UK and I have never seen one that's owned by the Government, they are all privately owned/built by companies like Viridor, Veolia, Biffa etc. They then collect waste on contract to local councils. There have been a lot of new places already built in the last 5 years.
LDeville
Hi In a nutshell, its just a way of raisng taxes on the back of local govs having to pay for the clear up of criminal activity, ie collecting tyres from garages for a fee and leaving behind thousands in rented industrial shed or farmland. muddycoffee
LLDeville, you clearly haven't purchased any vehicle tyres in the last few years, because when you do, the invoice has a line for the environmental disposal of the old ones. This is already covered, probably by legislation from the central government.
