Would you still eat meat if you had to slaughter the animal yourself?

the thing is, if you had to slaughter it yourself, you would be able to choose the way it met its end.

If I was all alone on an island with no supermarkets, but a field full of cattle, then once in a while I think yes I would lead one out to an isolated pasture and let it have it's final meal in peace before putting a shotgun to it's head and turn it into a few weeks/months worth of meat. It wouldn't know what the shotgun is and it wouldn't suffer. If I could actually do this is another matter.

I saw a food programme once where a boar was going to be killed and turned into a years worth of sausages. The farmer would use his rifle to scratch the boar on the head every day whilst feeding it. This way when "the big day" came the boar would feel no anxiety or fear and the kill would be quick and stress free.
