MagnetMan
has anyone done an undergradutate engineering practical lab which is designed to test the strength of materials or find the youngs modulus etc? Such as a tensile test? Basically i'm interested in designing an experiment so any help would really be welcome!!
barleycorn
It's more GCSE than undergraduate level but anyway... what material do you want to test? jb ETA: here is an experiment to find the Young's modulus of a steel wire.

You don't need a lab to do that on a sample - working out the Youngs modulus is easy enough. What sort of sample are we talking about here - wires, bending beams, etc? Obelix
Sadly they don't teach simple stuff any more or so it seems... this gives a good treatment of what the OP is probably interested in. http://blog.cencophysics.com/2009/08/beam-deflection-youngs-modulus/
