Bob crow negotiates a great deal for his union members,

Perhaps, but their market rate is based to a large extent on their ability to damage the capital when they strike.

I can see them being worth a few percent more than a hus driver - their job may have (potentially) more responsibility, but is certainly less taxing.

Should all bus drivers be on about £50k? Should floor sweepers in the Undeground be on £45k?

Unions damage commerce when they manage to bully employers into overly-inflated wages, and the end-user suffers.

If they have the economic power to command such a wage, good luck to them.

After all, they could all up sticks and relocate to the Hong Kong underground. Then where would we be?

Getting the maximum value out of the latest underground trains which were designed to be driverless.

I say good luck to them, I have no problem with people earning as much money as possible but it does also have a strong smell of Bob Crow saying " give us all your money or we will bring London to a standstill "

I mean what was the deal with the £2k bribe tube drivers had to be paid so they wouldn't go on strike during the Olympics, but hey good luck to them.

Perhaps what Bob Crow should be doing to alleviate the extra work incurred by his members due to increasing use of the underground, is agreeing to hold wages at todays rates like most of the UK workforce and insist that the extra money that he has secured should be spent on additional staff taken on from the unemployed.

Now that's what I would term a true socialist Union Leader.

£50k is more than most pilots would get when starting off in the airlines.

Quite right, a new qualified First Officer will be earning just over £20K a year of course a Captain with a major airline such as say BA will be pulling well over £100K a year.

I guess the First Officer has less blackmailing power than a London Tube Driver does.

And considerably less than a Hedge Fund manager.
