Harleyman
But everybody is going mad on the 99% deal, I'm really getting worried and stuff. I wouldn't get an ulcer worrying over this 99% stuff which is really a slogan somebody came up with and painted on a signboard Here are some other percentages. The national unemployment rate in America is 9.1% In Caliifornia it's actually 11 % 7.5% of the population live below the poverty line. That's around 40 million people. The poverty level is calculated on a family of four with an income of less than 24,000 dollars a year. 3% of the population are the wealthiest and it's probably true that they dont pay enough in taxes That leaves 80.4% which can be broken down as follows based on an average sized family of four (either 1 or both parents working with 2.5% kids as dependents) and with the following yearly incomes: 25,000 -40,000 dollars income......" working poor" to "borderline working poor" 45,000 -200,000 dollars income....."average" to "somewhat above average" Above 200,000 dollars income......."upper income bracket" but not wealthy either if the income is below say 700,000 per year Of course there are a lot of variables to all this but on the other hand it doesnt exactly point to 1% having everything and 99% nothing at all but it does make for a good slogan to rally behind

Harleyman
Thanks for that. Made my stella brain think a little. But the bold is a worry to me. If they'll ever pay more or not is far from certain. However even if they did pay more would this do anything substantial to ease the budget deficit when we're talking billions, sorry.... trillions. We need to look at government waste which if you could get a detailed report would knock your socks off. Just looking at the wastage and mismanagement in defence spending alone must be a horror story. Sometimes we get glimpses of it via the media like the Air Force paying a few hundred dollars for an ashtray which isn't worth 20. Rip-offs are the key words and there are plenty going on. Harleyman
Are the capitalists or the socialists to blame though? Neither particularly and there is no socialist party in the US by the way no matter what the Tea Party claim about the Obama administration and the Democrats It works like this. When the Democrats are in power the Republicans attack them for overspending which they do When the Republicans are in power they overspend anyway
