andygardener
Personal beliefs count for nothing (thankfully) under UK law. Given that we are talking about employing people hear that's rather misleading. The law is full of things you can and can't do when you have employed someone, however for obvious reasons it has almost nothing to say about employing people in the first place. What little it does is about how you advertise a job, once you have a candidate in front of you if you are the dm then you can hire them or not on any criteria that pops into your head. Obviously larger firms have policies and procedures in place to try and give guidance but in small firms personal beliefs/predjudices/etc will inform most hiring decisions to at least some extent. Though, if you felt you had been discriminated against because of your beliefs/lack of them, you would be able to launch legal action against them for discrimination. True. However unless they had been generous enough to ensure you'd be able to sue them by thanking you for your time, acknowledging you were the best candidate but sadly not hiring you because you were a jew/chinese/muslim/atheiest/homosexual/middle aged white guy/whatever then such legal action would be pointless and just drain your money. Look at the threads on here from unemployed people looking for jobs..how many have just not been contacted after interview and eventually worked out they didn't get the job? Nobody has to give a reason for not employing anyone - if employers are doing so because of predjudice you can bet they will not incriminate themselves by giving any reason whatsoever. jcelli
Bloomdido, if you would really like to work for a christian organisation, you could see if you could boost your qualifications. Try attending a local Alpha course.
